The funding is intended to support public transit chargers, biomass conversion methods for aviation fuel, and cyber threat detection technology.
The Department of Energy announced the recipients of its Small Business Innovation Research grant this month, distributing $52 million to 229 projects in 39 states. Research goals include wireless chargers for public transit, biomass conversion methods to produce aviation fuel, and cyber threat detection technology for local power grids.
The projects will receive $200,000 for six to twelve months of research, allowing them to collect the data necessary to later develop their technologies.
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said, “With research and development grants awarded for small businesses in nearly every state, DOE continues to invest in an industrial strategy that leaves no community behind as we transition to a clean energy economy.”
